Her Story

A doctor who takes
the time to listen.

Dr. Swapna Patel is board-certified in Internal Medicine and Obesity Medicine and a dedicated integrative and functional medicine specialist. She helps individuals achieve vibrant, lasting health through a personalized, whole-person approach to care.

Her journey in medicine began at Vijayanagar Institute of Medical Sciences in India, followed by Internal Medicine residency at the University of Nevada, Reno, where she graduated in 2019. She went on to practice as a hospitalist, caring for adults with complex acute and chronic illnesses. Those years deepened her understanding of what truly contributes to disease — and strengthened her commitment to prevention, lifestyle, and patient empowerment.

Dr. Patel is completing an Integrative Medicine Fellowship through the Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine at the University of Arizona, with advanced training in nutrition, lifestyle medicine, mind-body medicine, stress physiology, and evidence-based complementary therapies.

As the founder of ArovaMD Integrative Medicine, she partners with patients to uncover the root causes of their health concerns and create personalized plans that support healing, resilience, and well-being — blending the best of modern medicine with nutrition, movement, restorative sleep, stress management, mindfulness, and integrative therapies tailored to each person.

"Health is more than the absence of disease. It's the cultivation of vitality, balance, and the capacity to thrive."

— Dr. Swapna Patel, MD

What Is Integrative Medicine?

The best of medicine — whole.

Integrative medicine combines evidence-based conventional medicine with lifestyle medicine and complementary approaches to address the root causes of illness — not just its symptoms.

Rather than focusing on a single symptom or organ system, we evaluate the whole person: nutrition, sleep, stress, physical activity, relationships, environmental factors, and overall well-being.

Integrative medicine doesn't reject conventional care. It uses the full toolkit — medications when appropriate, lifestyle interventions, and evidence-based complementary therapies — woven together into one coherent, personalized plan.

Nutrition & Gut Health

Food as medicine — anti-inflammatory eating, blood-sugar balance, and microbiome support.

Mind-Body Medicine

Stress physiology, breathwork, mindfulness, and the nervous-system connection to physical health.

Restorative Sleep

Sleep as a foundation of healing — understanding and addressing what disrupts it.

Movement & Lifestyle

Exercise, daily movement, and behavioral habits that compound into lasting change.

Evidence-Based Supplements

Individualized — only when indicated — never one-size-fits-all.

Conventional Medicine

Medications and diagnostics used thoughtfully, as one tool among many — not the default starting point.

"Health is more than the absence of disease. It's the cultivation of vitality, balance, and the capacity to thrive — and my mission is to provide care that empowers you to become an active participant in your own healing."

Our Philosophy of Care

You deserve to be heard.

We believe optimal health is achieved by addressing the whole person — not just symptoms. Our goal is to help you understand your body, make informed decisions, and build sustainable habits that support lifelong wellness.

Above all, we believe you deserve to be heard. That means time — more of it than you're used to. It means a physician who reads your history before your appointment, not during. It means care built around your goals, not a template.

  • Root-cause thinking

We ask why, not just what. Every symptom is a signal worth understanding — not just managing.

  • Partnership, not prescription

You are an active participant in your care, not a passive recipient. We build plans together and refine them as you progress.

  • Evidence, always

Integrative medicine is grounded in science. Every recommendation we make is based on current research and clinical evidence.

  • Compassion as standard

Every patient who walks through our door has already worked hard to be heard. We meet them with warmth, patience, and genuine care.

A Distinctive Speciality

Breathwork & Mindfulness — from the inside out.

As a certified breathwork facilitator and dedicated mindfulness practitioner, Dr. Patel brings a rare dimension to integrative care — the lived practice of the tools she recommends. Mind-body medicine isn't an add-on in her practice. It's foundational.

She incorporates breathwork, nervous-system regulation, and mindfulness-based approaches into patient care — as clinically appropriate — to address the stress-health connection that so many conventional appointments overlook.
